The major scale as do-re-mi

Here is G major in the open position, each note with its number and its solfège name. Play the arrow path from the open G string up to the G on the high e, singing along: Do Re Mi Fa Sol La Ti Do.

Notice the small steps: Mi–Fa (B to C) and Ti–Do (F♯ to G) are one fret apart. Every other step is two frets, or the next string.
