Do, Fa and Sol (1, 4 and 5) are the three strongest notes of a key. They're the roots of its three main chords: in G major, G, C and D.
Fa sounds like it wants to move; Sol sounds like it wants to go home to Do. Learn to hear that pull and you'll hear chord changes coming in songs.
Try this
Play G, then C, then D, then G on the guitar (low E 3rd fret, A 3rd fret, open D, open G). Sing Do Fa Sol Do with them.
